How does the Optovera technology work?
Portable technology that analyzes pupil response to detect real-time alertness risks.
Optovera is a solution that measures how the pupil reacts to a light stimulus. This reaction is called the Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR) and is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Changes in this response may indicate fatigue, medication use, alcohol, or other conditions that affect alertness.
Here's how the system works:
-
The person puts on the device (a headset with an integrated smartphone) over their eyes.
-
The environment remains dark for 50 seconds so the pupil can naturally dilate.
-
Then, a light turns on for 4 seconds, and a video of the eye is recorded.
-
The system analyzes the pupil’s behavior and compares it to the user’s own baseline.
-
An instant result is generated indicating whether a significant alteration is present.
