# Who should have access to the Device credentials?

## Only authorized Customer personnel should handle Device login credentials.

Device credentials should be handled only by authorized customer personnel.

The credentials allow the Device to access the customer-specific OPTOVERA environment. For this reason, they should not be broadly shared or made available to general Users.

Access should be managed by the Customer’s internal access-control process. In most cases, Device credentials should be handled by the Customer’s master user, administrator, or another authorized person responsible for managing the OPTOVERA deployment.

Dashboard access should also be assigned according to each person’s role:

- Administrator: has full access to platform functionality.
- Agent: has similar privileges to an administrator, but cannot add other agents.
- Read-Only: can view information and reports but cannot enter or modify data.

All three roles can see which association method each User uses. Customers are advised not to use a User’s association method as a criterion in any assessment of that worker.

Only personnel who need access for setup, synchronization, Device management, support, or administration should handle Device credentials.

For daily testing, Users do not need access to Device credentials. They only need to select their username, enter their PIN if they chose PIN, and follow the test instructions on the Device.

A User’s PIN is not a Device credential. It only associates the User’s Scans with their record and does not give access to Device settings or the dashboard. Each User sets their own PIN on the Device, and no role, including administrators, can set, view, or recover it. An administrator can only clear a forgotten PIN so the User can set a new one.

Limiting access to credentials helps protect the Customer’s OPTOVERA environment, reduces the risk of unauthorized changes, and supports consistent Device management.
