# How does data synchronization work?

## Synchronization updates user records and PIN changes and uploads pending measurements.

Synchronization keeps the Device aligned with the OPTOVERA cloud platform.

When the Device is connected to the internet, synchronization updates USERS LIST, including PIN resets and PIN changes made on other Devices, and uploads measurements that were stored locally on the Device. This is important when new Users have been added, User information has changed, a PIN has been reset, or tests were performed while the Device was offline.

Supervisors should press UPDATE USERS LIST regularly, especially before testing begins. The Device should be connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this is done.

If there are measurements that have not yet been synchronized, the home screen shows them as Pending measurements. This number should return to zero after the Device reconnects and synchronizes.

If Pending measurements does not return to zero, supervisors should check the internet connection, confirm that the Device is connected, and press UPDATE USERS LIST again.

Regular synchronization helps ensure that:

- USERS LIST on the Device is current.
- New or updated Users are available for testing.
- PIN resets and PIN changes have reached the Device.
- Stored measurements are uploaded to the cloud platform.
- Dashboard information remains up to date.
- Offline measurements are not left pending on the Device.
