# What does an OPTOVERA Scan measure?

## The Scan measures the pupillary response to light and compares it with an established individual baseline.

An OPTOVERA Scan measures the Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR), the involuntary change in pupil diameter in response to changes in light.

During the Scan, the Device creates a controlled dark environment, applies a brief light stimulus, records the pupil response, and analyzes how the pupil reacts. The measured PLR characteristics include:

- Initial pupil diameter
- Constriction amplitude
- Response latency
- Constriction rate or constriction velocity

Each Scan is associated with the correct enrolled User through the association method that User chose: PIN or optional one-to-one iris recognition. Both methods are available to every User, and the method does not affect how the measurement is performed or interpreted. In both methods, the Device records a short video of the eye, because the pupillary response is measured from it.

When the User has an established individual baseline, OPTOVERA compares the current Scan with that User’s own normal response. This comparison helps identify significant deviations that may indicate elevated safety risk, including risk related to reduced alertness or readiness for safety-sensitive work.

The Scan does not identify the cause of a change. It measures the pupil response and provides an objective signal to support operational review.
