# Lighting conditions for Users during an OPTOVERA Scan

### Purpose

This User-facing article explains how lighting conditions can affect an OPTOVERA Scan and what Users should do before testing.

### Why lighting matters

OPTOVERA measures how the pupils respond to changing light conditions. Before the Scan, the Device creates controlled dark conditions so the pupils can dilate before the light stimulus is applied.

If you have just come from a very bright environment, such as direct sunlight, a bright loading bay, or a vehicle in strong daylight, your pupils may need more time to return to the starting condition expected for the Scan.

For this reason, do not rush into the Scan immediately after coming from a very bright area, especially while your baseline is being created.

### What Users should do

Before the Scan:

- Do not rush.
- Make sure you are comfortable and calm.
- Follow the Device instructions.
- Avoid starting immediately after coming from very bright light.
- Close your eyes during the 60-second countdown.
- Open your eyes wide and look straight ahead when instructed.
- Avoid blinking or moving your eyes from side to side during the 4-second video capture.

If the Device cannot capture a valid measurement, the test may need to be repeated.

### What Users need to know about baseline lighting

During baseline acquisition, the Scan should be performed in low or normal indoor light, below 1,000 lux. The supervisor or authorized personnel can check the lux measurement on the Device home screen before the Scan.

If a baseline test is taken in lighting conditions above 1,000 lux, the baseline measurement is discarded and is not registered in the platform. In that case, the baseline test must be repeated in a more appropriate lighting condition.
