# What should a User do before taking the test?

## Start calmly and comfortably, ready to follow instructions without rushing.

Before taking the test, the User should be calm, comfortable, and ready to follow the Device instructions without rushing.

The User should:

- Avoid rushing into the Scan.
- Avoid testing immediately after coming from a very bright environment.
- Stand or sit comfortably, depending on the company’s testing setup.
- Select their own username and, if they chose PIN, enter their PIN.
- Follow the instructions provided by the Device.
- Place the Device correctly over the eyes when instructed.
- Keep the eyes closed during the 60-second countdown.
- Open the eyes wide and look straight ahead when instructed.
- Avoid blinking or moving the eyes from side to side during the 4-second video capture.
- Repeat the test if the Device cannot capture a valid measurement.

The Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR), the involuntary change in pupil diameter in response to changes in light, cannot be consciously controlled. This means the User cannot exaggerate or “perform” the pupil response. The User’s role is to remain calm, follow the instructions, and keep the eyes correctly positioned so the Device can capture a valid measurement.

For baseline measurements, the testing area should be in low or normal indoor light, below 1,000 lux. The ambient light level, in lux, can be read on the Device home screen before the Scan.

If a baseline test is taken in lighting conditions above 1,000 lux, the baseline measurement is discarded and is not registered in the platform.
