# Why is consistent positioning and lighting important?

## Consistent eye position and lighting help capture a valid pupillary response.

Consistent positioning and lighting are important because OPTOVERA measures the pupil’s response to controlled changes in light conditions.

Consistent positioning helps ensure that:

- The pupil is visible.
- The 4-second video capture records a valid pupillary response.
- For a User who chose iris recognition, the iris can be recognized so the measurement is associated with the correct enrolled User.
- The measurement can be compared correctly with the User’s individual baseline when available.

For baseline measurements, the ambient light level should be below 1,000 lux. Supervisors can verify this using the lux reading shown on the Device home screen.

If a baseline test is taken in lighting conditions above 1,000 lux, the baseline measurement is discarded and is not registered in the platform.
