title: When should a baseline be reset?
description: An OPTOVERA alteration alone is not a reason to reset the baseline. Investigate first and consider a reset only if the reference may be unrepresentative.

# When should a baseline be reset?

## Reset only after investigation indicates that the baseline may no longer be representative.

A baseline should not be reset simply because a User receives an Alteration Detected result. Such results should first be handled according to the organization’s established safety and investigation procedures.

A baseline should be considered for reset when an investigation indicates that it may no longer accurately represent the User’s normal pupillary response. This may occur, for example, when:

- The baseline may have been acquired while the User was consistently tired, under the influence, or otherwise in an altered state.
- The User repeatedly receives unexpected Alteration Detected results while otherwise appearing to be in their normal condition.
- A clear discrepancy is identified between the baseline and subsequent measurements.
- A lasting physiological change has altered the User’s normal Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR) without affecting the User’s readiness or ability to perform their work safely.

The last situation is possible but uncommon. If repeated Alteration Detected results appear inconsistent with the User’s observed condition, the case should be investigated to determine whether the User’s normal PLR response may have changed.

When appropriate, an authorized administrator can reset the baseline so that it can be acquired again under suitable conditions.

Resetting a baseline removes the existing reference used for comparison. The User must therefore complete the required minimum of ten accepted baseline measurements before conclusive Scan results can resume.

A baseline reset is a separate administrative action. A change of association method, a PIN change, or a PIN reset does not reset the baseline or delete measurement history.
