description: OPTOVERA results describe pupil response at the measurement time. Within Baseline Range is not a guarantee of safety or that accidents cannot occur.

# We had an accident, but the operator received a Within Baseline Range result. How is that possible?

## A result reflects the measurement time and cannot guarantee accident prevention.

Like any safety system, OPTOVERA cannot guarantee that accidents will not occur.

A Within Baseline Range result means that, at the time of the Scan, no significant alteration was detected in the operator’s Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR) when compared with the operator’s individual baseline. In other words, the measured pupillary response was within the expected range for that operator at that time.

A Within Baseline Range result does not certify that the operator is free from risk, guarantee that the operator will perform every task safely, or predict whether an accident will occur. OPTOVERA evaluates a specific physiological response at a specific point in time. It does not assess every factor that may affect workplace safety, and the operator’s condition or working environment may also change after the Scan.

Accidents can result from many causes or combinations of causes, including equipment failure, environmental conditions, procedural issues, distraction, communication problems, inadequate training, unexpected events, or other operational factors.

Any accident should therefore be investigated according to the organization’s established incident-review and safety procedures. The OPTOVERA result may be considered as one piece of information within a review conducted for preventive purposes, together with the timing of the Scan, the operator’s observations and behavior, working conditions, equipment records, procedures, and all other relevant evidence. It must not be used as evidence of misconduct or to support disciplinary action.
