# What does Alteration Not Verified mean?

## No confirmation measurement was completed within 30 minutes of the first alteration.

Alteration Not Verified means that the User received an Alteration Detected result but did not complete a confirmation measurement within the 30-minute confirmation window.

It indicates an incomplete procedure, not a more serious result. After an Alteration Detected result, supervisors should make sure that the same User completes a repeat measurement within 30 minutes so that the pair can receive its final classification.

If the repeat measurement is completed for the same User within 30 minutes, the first result is labeled Retested and is not counted separately:

- If it also returns Alteration Detected, the pair is classified as Alteration Confirmed, assigned to the second result, and counts as one confirmed alteration.
- If it returns Within Baseline Range, the pair is classified as Within Baseline Range, assigned to the second result.

If the confirmation measurement is not completed within 30 minutes, the initial result remains inconclusive and is classified as Alteration Not Verified.

The principle is similar to measuring blood pressure at a doctor’s office. If the first reading is high, the doctor usually waits and measures again before reaching a conclusion. If the second measurement is not taken, the high reading remains incomplete and cannot be properly confirmed.

Supervisors should therefore treat the confirmation measurement as an essential part of the confirmation workflow. An Alteration Not Verified result does not show whether the alteration was persistent or temporary; it only indicates that the required confirmation step was not completed.
