# Can OPTOVERA detect alcohol or drugs?

## OPTOVERA does not detect specific substances or determine intoxication.

No. OPTOVERA does not detect alcohol, drugs, or any specific substance, and it does not determine intoxication.

OPTOVERA measures the Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR) and compares the User’s response with the User’s individual baseline. If a significant alteration is detected, the result is shown as Alteration Detected.

An Alteration Detected result does not identify the cause of the alteration. It must not be interpreted or used as evidence of alcohol use, drug use, intoxication, impairment, fatigue, or any specific condition.

Alcohol or drug influence may be one of several possible factors that can affect pupillary response, but OPTOVERA does not determine whether alcohol, drugs, medication, fatigue, a medical condition, or any other factor caused the alteration.

Any follow-up action must be handled according to the organization’s internal safety procedure, applicable laws, workplace policies, and qualified review processes.
