# What is a baseline?

## The baseline is a personal reference profile of the User’s pupillary response.

A baseline is the User’s individual pupillary reference profile.

OPTOVERA builds the baseline from successful measurements of that User’s pupillary response to the same controlled light stimulus. This creates a personalized reference for what is normally expected for that specific User.

A complete baseline requires a minimum of 10 successful measurements.

The first 2 baseline measurements can be taken immediately one after the other. After that, each additional baseline measurement must be separated by at least 8 hours. If a baseline measurement is taken too soon, it is not registered and does not count toward baseline completion. When this happens, the Device displays an alert to inform the User.

Once the baseline is established, future Scans are compared with that User’s individual baseline. This comparison indicates whether the pupillary response remains within the expected range or shows a significant alteration.

After the initial baseline is complete, OPTOVERA continues to update the baseline over time to follow the User’s slow physiological changes. No action is required from the User, supervisor, or administrator. This update happens automatically in the background and helps the baseline continue to reflect the User’s normal response over time.

The baseline is individual to each User. It is not a general population average and is not based on comparing one User with other Users. It is built from pupillary-response measurements only and is independent of the association method.
