What Is the Baseline and Why Is It Key in Optovera?

The individual reference profile that enables reliable test interpretation.

The baseline in Optovera is the individual pupillary reference profile of each worker. All subsequent tests are compared to this profile to determine whether the pupil response is within their normal range (baseline) or shows significant deviation.

To build this baseline, at least 10 successful measurements are required. These initial tests capture the person’s natural variability in the Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR) and establish a trustworthy reference point.

Baseline creation process

  1. Initial measurements

    • 10 successful tests must be recorded.

    • The first 4 must be consecutive and successful to enable iris-based user authentication.

  2. Daily restriction during construction

    • A maximum of 2 successful measurements per day are accepted.

    • This ensures the baseline reflects natural PLR variability across different times.

  3. Reference profile created

    • Once 10 tests are completed, the system establishes the worker’s final baseline.

    • All future tests are evaluated against this profile.

Artificial intelligence and continuous updates

Optovera does not treat the baseline as static. The system includes an AI component that dynamically updates each worker’s reference profile.

This is essential because PLR changes over time due to factors such as:

  • Age (pupil reflex tends to slow with aging).

  • Individual physiological conditions.

  • Adaptation of the autonomic nervous system over time.

How does this updating work?

  • Every new valid test is integrated into the worker’s model.

  • AI analyzes longitudinal patterns, distinguishing natural evolution from abnormal deviations.

  • The profile adjusts progressively, maintaining risk detection sensitivity while reducing false positives due to natural physiological changes.

  • This ensures the baseline always reflects the worker’s current condition, not a snapshot from the past.

Conclusion

The baseline is Optovera’s essential reference point, built from 10 initial tests. Thanks to artificial intelligence, it evolves over time, adapting to the worker’s natural changes. This guarantees that all evaluations remain accurate, personalized, and reliable for HSE risk management.
