Error Type 1: Pupil Not Detected or Eyes Misaligned

How to identify and correct this error to ensure a valid measurement.

During the Optovera test, a Type 1 Error may occur when the system fails to correctly detect the worker’s pupil. This is typically caused by poor eye positioning or incorrect visor adjustment.

Most common causes

  • Visor poorly adjusted: external light leaks into the camera.

  • Misaligned gaze: the worker is not looking straight ahead.

  • Half-closed eyes: eyelids drooping or not fully open.

  • Movement during the test: worker moves head or device.

  • Blinking during light stimulus: interrupts pupil reflex capture.

How to avoid Error Type 1

  • Ensure the visor is properly sealed against the face with no light leaks.

  • Instruct the worker to keep eyes straight and fixed.

  • Remind them to fully open eyes before the light stimulus and keep still for 4 seconds.

  • Reinforce the importance of not blinking during that moment.

  • Make sure the device remains steady throughout the test.

What to do if the error occurs

  1. Guide the worker again on correct posture: eyes wide open, straight ahead, no movement.

  2. Repeat the test immediately.

  3. If the error persists, check visor conditions and clean the camera lens.

Conclusion

Error Type 1 is usually caused by poor eye positioning or light interference. It can be quickly corrected by adjusting posture and checking the visor, ensuring continuous, valid HSE testing.
