Baseline Result

Reference status under construction for each worker.

When a worker first begins using Optovera, their initial tests are not yet compared to a complete profile. In this case, the app shows the “Baseline” result.

What does “Baseline” mean?

  • The worker is in the enrollment process.

  • The system is collecting at least 10 successful measurements to build their pupillary reference profile.

  • During this period, results are not interpreted as Fit or Unfit, but are used to construct the individual baseline.

Supervisor role during baseline period

In this initial stage, supervisors play a key role:

  • Verify technique: Ensure workers fully open their eyes, keep their gaze steady, and do not move during the test.

  • Ask about current conditions: Inquire if the worker is experiencing situations that may affect the measurement, such as:

    • Sleep deprivation

    • Use of medications that affect the nervous system

    • Stress, anxiety, or emotional distress

  • Create a safe space: This is an opportunity to talk with the worker. If a potential risk condition arises, the company can act immediately before collecting baseline data.

Importance of initial conditions

If a worker builds their baseline under a non-normal condition (e.g., taking medication that affects the nervous system), the system will interpret that state as their “normal” baseline.

  • If the worker later stops the medication, their pupillary response may change.

  • Optovera will then detect a deviation from the baseline, possibly resulting in a high-risk outcome.

  • This doesn’t mean the technology is wrong — it’s accurately registering a change in the worker’s functional state.

Precision of Optovera technology

  • Optovera cannot directly know if the worker was under a temporary condition during baseline creation.

  • But it does precisely detect when there is an abrupt change in pupillary response from the established profile.

  • These changes help companies investigate and act, understanding what was happening during baseline construction and what changed later to cause different results.

Conclusion

The “Baseline” result marks the start of enrollment and is a strategic moment for supervisors and workers to discuss any conditions that may affect measurements. While Optovera doesn’t detect the root cause of initial alterations, it precisely tracks functional changes over time, giving companies a unique opportunity to manage risk proactively and based on objective data.
