How do PIN changes and resets reach an offline Device?

PIN changes reach a Device only after synchronization; the previous PIN remains valid meanwhile.

Because PIN verification takes place on the Device and the user list is synchronized rather than queried live, a PIN change or reset takes effect on a Device only after that Device synchronizes. This applies both to an administrator reset and to a change the User makes on another Device. Until then, the previous PIN remains valid on that Device. At a remote site, a Device may remain offline for days.

This is correct behavior for a forgotten PIN and a limitation for a compromised one. The operational control is synchronization: after any PIN change or reset made for security reasons, synchronize every Device the User may use. The standing practice of synchronizing Devices before each shift limits the practical exposure in most deployments.

A User who remembers their PIN can change it on the Device without administrator involvement or connectivity; the change reaches other Devices when they synchronize. Neither a change nor a reset affects the User’s baseline, measurement history, or results.
