What happens if a User builds their baseline while they are tired or under the influence?
Repeated measurements and required spacing help reduce the risk of an unrepresentative baseline.
OPTOVERA includes safeguards designed to reduce the likelihood that a baseline will be established during a temporary altered state.
A baseline requires a minimum of ten accepted measurements. The software prevents these measurements from being collected over a short period. The first two measurements may be accepted without an eight-hour separation. After the first two, each additional baseline measurement must be taken at least eight hours after the previous accepted measurement. A measurement taken sooner is discarded and does not count toward baseline completion.
It is possible, in theory, for a User to remain in a significantly altered state throughout the extended period required to collect ten measurements. However, this would be highly unlikely.
Even in such an unusual case, the discrepancy would eventually become apparent. When the User later returns to their normal state, their pupillary response may differ significantly from the incorrectly established baseline. The system could therefore identify the normal measurement as altered and generate an Alteration Detected result.
An investigation of repeated or unexpected Alteration Detected results should reveal the inconsistency between the baseline and the User’s subsequent measurements. An authorized administrator can then reset the baseline so that it can be acquired again under appropriate conditions.
