Why is a confirmation measurement needed after an Alteration Detected result?

A repeat within 30 minutes classifies the pair; the first result becomes Retested.

A confirmation measurement is needed because the first Alteration Detected result is a trigger for a second test, rather than the final classification of a completed pair.

OPTOVERA detects a significant alteration in the User’s pupillary response compared with the User’s individual baseline. A repeat measurement checks whether an alteration is detected again; the results do not identify its cause.

The repeat measurement must be completed for the same User within 30 minutes of the first. The second result determines the pair’s final classification; without an in-window repeat, the first result becomes Alteration Not Verified.

The principle is similar to repeating a high blood pressure reading before drawing a conclusion. A repeat provides another measurement; it does not, by itself, establish the cause or duration of a change.

The OPTOVERA confirmation workflow has these possible outcomes:

  • Alteration Confirmed, assigned to the second result if the repeat also returns Alteration Detected within 30 minutes. The pair counts as one confirmed alteration; the first result is Retested and is not counted separately.
  • Within Baseline Range, assigned to the second result if the repeat returns Within Baseline Range within 30 minutes. The first result is Retested and is not counted separately.
  • Alteration Not Verified, assigned to the first result if no repeat is completed within 30 minutes.

This confirmation process helps supervisors and qualified personnel review the result more reliably according to the organization’s internal safety procedure.
