Offline testing and synchronization workflow
Purpose
This article explains how OPTOVERA works when the Device is offline, what information is stored locally, what may be delayed, and what supervisors should do when the Device reconnects.
OPTOVERA can continue testing after the Device has already been logged in, even if Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity is temporarily unavailable.
When offline testing may happen
Offline testing may occur when:
- The testing area has weak or unstable Wi-Fi.
- The Device is used in a remote location.
- The Device is used away from the normal synchronization area.
- Cellular coverage is not available.
- The network is temporarily down.
- The Device has already been logged in but later loses connection.
Temporary loss of connectivity does not automatically prevent testing.
What still works while the Device is offline
If the Device has already been logged in, Users can still complete OPTOVERA tests while the Device is offline.
When the Device is offline:
- Users can select their username and, if they chose PIN, have it verified on the Device.
- The Scan can still be performed.
- The result can still appear on the Device.
- The measurement is stored locally on the Device.
- Testing can continue outside connectivity range.
This allows testing to continue in locations where internet access is limited or temporarily unavailable.
What is delayed while the Device is offline
When the Device is offline, the cloud platform does not immediately receive the test record, and the Device does not receive changes made in the dashboard.
This means some information may be delayed until synchronization occurs, including:
- Dashboard visibility.
- Reports.
- Cloud-based result history.
- Alteration Detected alerts configured through the cloud platform.
- Updated centralized records.
- New Users, disabled Users, and group changes made in the dashboard.
- PIN resets, and PIN changes made on other Devices.
The result may appear on the Device before it appears in the dashboard. This does not necessarily mean the test failed. It may simply mean the Device has not synchronized yet.
Until a PIN reset reaches the Device, the User’s previous PIN remains valid on that Device.
How Pending measurements works
When measurements have not yet synchronized, the Device shows them as Pending measurements on the home screen.
Pending measurements means that one or more test records are stored locally on the Device and still need to be uploaded to the OPTOVERA cloud platform.
After the Device reconnects and synchronizes successfully, Pending measurements should return to zero.
Supervisors should check this number regularly, especially:
- At the beginning of a shift.
- At the end of a shift.
- After testing offline.
- After network interruptions.
- Before relying on dashboard visibility.
- When alerts or reports appear delayed.
How to synchronize after offline testing
When the Device is back within Wi-Fi or cellular coverage, supervisors should synchronize it.
Recommended workflow:
- Connect the Device to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- Use the SpeedTest app if needed to confirm that the internet connection is working.
- Press UPDATE USERS LIST.
- Check Pending measurements on the home screen.
- Confirm that Pending measurements returns to zero.
- Open USERS LIST if needed to confirm that it is current, including any pending PIN resets.
If Pending measurements does not return to zero, the Device may still not have a reliable connection.
What to do if synchronization does not complete
If synchronization does not complete after reconnecting:
- Confirm that the Device is connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- Use the SpeedTest app to verify that the internet connection is working.
- Press UPDATE USERS LIST again.
- Power the Device off and then back on.
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- Press UPDATE USERS LIST again.
- Try a different network if the issue continues.
If the Device still does not synchronize, contact OPTOVERA support.
How offline testing affects dashboard visibility
The dashboard is updated after the Device synchronizes with the OPTOVERA cloud platform.
If a test was performed while the Device was offline, the result may not appear in the dashboard immediately. The record remains stored locally until the Device reconnects and synchronizes.
After synchronization, supervisors should confirm that Pending measurements is zero and then check the dashboard again.
How offline testing affects alerts
If Alteration Detected alerts are configured, they depend on the cloud platform receiving the result.
When the Device is offline, a result may appear on the Device, but the cloud platform may not receive the record until synchronization occurs. As a result, alerts may be delayed until the Device reconnects and uploads the pending measurements.
If an alert does not appear as expected, supervisors should check whether the Device has Pending measurements and confirm that synchronization has completed.
Best practices for offline environments
For sites where connectivity is limited, supervisors should create a regular synchronization routine.
Recommended practices include:
- Synchronize the Device before testing begins.
- Confirm that Users appear in USERS LIST before testing.
- Check Pending measurements during the shift when possible.
- Reconnect and synchronize the Device as soon as practical after offline testing.
- Synchronize every Device a User may use as soon as possible after a PIN reset made for security reasons.
- Confirm that Pending measurements returns to zero after synchronization.
- Check dashboard records after synchronization.
- Contact OPTOVERA support if records remain pending.
Key reminders
- OPTOVERA can perform tests offline after the Device has already been logged in.
- PIN verification works offline; PIN resets reach the Device only when it synchronizes.
- Offline results are stored locally on the Device.
- Dashboard visibility may be delayed until synchronization.
- Cloud-based alerts may be delayed until synchronization.
- Pending measurements should return to zero after synchronization.
- Press UPDATE USERS LIST when reconnecting and synchronizing.
- Use SpeedTest if needed to confirm the internet connection.
- Contact OPTOVERA support if synchronization does not complete.
